Locally Hosted Website, 80 Rollover Masked Arrows & Photographs
I believe that because the arrow is such a ubiquitous symbol in our visual culture it is overlooked for critical investigation—we see it everywhere, but tend not to think about it. My collection of arrows consists of eighty photographs taken in and around the greater North Florida, Georgia and Alabama region. I converted thirty of these photographs into screen prints with only the arrow forms printed on the paper. By masking the context the nuances of arrow forms are foregrounded. A companion website displayed all eighty photographs and their masked counterpart. Visitors were able to interact with the arrows by rolling the cursor over each masked arrow to reveal the surrounding context.
